The Creative Process: Become A Bigger Person

So you are thinking of starting a new project. But you are not sure if it’s realistic, if you’re going to be able to complete it, and how to go about it. Maybe you have been stuck in this phase of doubt for a while. You are thinking and thinking about it, trying to figure out a plan that will get you from A to B. And you just can’t seem to figure it out! What to do?

There is one capital and often overlooked particularity to dreaming big: to achieve it, you need to become a bigger person.

And yes, that's good news for us. That means we don't have to have it all figured out.

We tend to think that, if a project is really great, that means that we should have figured out a great plan to see it through. We think that we should have it all figured out before we even start. By doing this, we put ourselves under unnecessary stress, and set ourselves us for not even starting it.

Because a great project, to be achieved, will require us to become someone we are not, yet. It will push us to learn new skills, test new ideas, adapt our strategy, get out of our comfort zone and do things we would have never thought we would be capable of doing. By the end of the project, we will be a different person than when we started it, because that’s what's required of us to make it happen.

So it’s normal that, starting on a great project, we don’t know how to achieve it. We couldn’t possibly imagine and plan for all the ideas and actions that future bigger us will come up with along the way!

All we need to know is what the next step is, to bring us closer to our goal. And before we know it, we will have grown and transformed into the person we need to be to achieve our dream.

If your project doesn’t require you to grow to achieve it, if you are able to figure it all out before even starting, please go back to square one, take your project and make it (at least) 50 times bigger! Having a dream 50 times bigger doesn’t mean you will have to work 50 times harder, or that it will take 50 times longer. It means that you will have to become 50 times bigger, smarter, braver,  more creative and skilled to achieve it. And probably that the reward will be 50 times bigger (though I decline all responsibility for the awesome stuff you’ll create).

Now make a bold move and tell us about your dream project in the comment section!
